Our commitment to Real: Where we stand on the future with AI

Robin Chase August 8, 2025

From the beginning, we’ve believed that food should be photographed the way it’s meant to be eaten: real. When Sue and I started working together, we made a deliberate choice to style with only natural elements: no motor oil, glue, or artificial tricks. Coming from an advertising background, Sue had seen all the ways food was faked for the camera. But we knew there was a better way. Our mission from day one was simple: to make food look absolutely delicious using only real ingredients and thoughtful styling. We’ve been real from the start, and we’ve stayed that way ever since.

In an era when AI can create a perfectly lit croissant with crumbs and steam without ever preheating an oven, we start to wonder what’s real anymore?

We’re at a turning point in photography, especially in the world of food. AI generated food imagery is now good. It’s fast, customizable, and already being used by many food businesses. But we believe this shift comes with a growing desire: a hunger for authenticity.

Why does authenticity matter? Trust. When we see an image of a burger, a noodle bowl, or a stack of cookies, we’re not just seeing a product, we’re imagining a taste, a smell, a certain experience. We’re building trust. Whether we’re deciding what to order, what to cook, or what brand to support, the image plays a central role in shaping expectations.

We think real is the new luxury. As AI imagery becomes more common, reality becomes more precious. Real food, captured by real people, becomes a mark of care. It tells the viewer: this was made, not generated. It can be trusted.

And for those of us who’ve been committed to real since day one, that future looks bright!
